February 01 Boston: You're Too ScaredHoly crap.
I open up my daily issue of Seattle P-I, and what do I see on the front page?
A Lite-Brite version of Ignignokt, along with the words "Bomb Scare wasn't funny".
So I took a look at the article, and here's the summary:
People placed these Lite-Brite Mooninites (Ignignokt and Err) around 10 different cities, then lit them up.
The kicker: Boston OVERREACTED. And not just lightly overreacted. They called in the fucking bomb squad!
Here's a clip of the article:
"...The reaction was different in Boston earlier Wednesday. Nine blinking electronic devices planted at bridges and other spots in Boston resulted in near panic, and bomb squads were dispatched before authorities declared the devices harmless.
'It's a hoax - and it's not funny,' Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said."
WHATTTT?
No other city, even Seattle, took this measure.
I can't get it through my mind why, oh why, do you think it was a bomb?
Was it a hoax? No way. Let's take a look at our dictionary:
hoax
There was never any intent to decieve or defraud! Bad choice of words, Boston government.
Oh yeah, don't forget - the city of Boston okayed this device prior to the scare, too!
In every city they were found in, they had been there for 2 to 3 weeks! WEEKS! Holy crap! The governor didn't know about this before he spoke? Um....something's really wrong with this Boston government. Here's the overview of what the device looks like: http://mooninites.christopherlame.com/
The overreaction to all of this is amazing, from eBay to news channels.
On eBay:
At the time I'm writing this, the price is $600 bucks USD. Insane.
There were other links to other devices, but they have been removed. Those were at $1,175 last time I looked.
Boston Globe:
They arrested the two people who "planted" the device: http://www.boston.com/news/globe/city_region/breaking_news/2007/02/artists_perform.html
MSNBC:
Hilarious, even for a TV station:
It gets even more frustrating: The Turner Network services APOLOGIZED for this!
In no way whatsoever could there have been any necessity to apologize. The cities okayed it, for crying out loud!
Authorities are even looking to charge Turner Network with crime! That city acknowledgement right there will dismiss any charges.
How stupid are people getting here in Boston?
In closing, Boston, and any of you other uninformed people out there need to know a few simple rules:
1) If you don't know what something is, go ask someone about it first.
2) If that person tells you what it is, great, you found your answer to your question.
3) If that person doesn't know, go find someone who does.
However, with this event, you DO NOT have the following rule:
1) Pull the fire alarm and scare the fuck out of everyone in the city just because YOU don't know what it is.
